NFL Teams Super Bowl 46 Hopes - Part 1

Super Bowl 46 Hopefuls (No Hope)
We are a quarter of the way through the season. Every August, each team starts with Super Bowl aspirations, realistic or ridiculous, depending on the team. Where does each teams chance stand now?

First, let's look at the teams that have no hope for Superbowl 46(in my humble opinion).

Indianopolis Colts: for a couple of years now, we have been wondering if this was an old team that Peyton Manning was keeping afloat, or if they were still legitimate contenders. For die-hard Colts fans, Peyton Manning is just that important; they’ll be contenders next year when he’s back. Most analysts will say that Peyton Manning is “that important” and the Colts are too old anyway.

Miami Dolphins: what do you expect to happen when you treat your coach like that all off season? Management’s approach of we’ll keep you since nothing better came along sent a horrible message to the whole team; this team isn’t good enough to do anything. They probably didn’t have enough talent to make the playoffs, but they could have been competitive most weeks at the very least.

Jacksonville Jaguars: defense is coming along nicely, maybe well enough to luck into the playoffs this year; however, the wheels are coming off on offense. Suspect talent at wide receiver and tight end, cut your quarterback, start a rookie and… you’re abysmal. They’re getting close on defense, but they are a long way away on offense.

Denver Broncos: they just need talent, man! They’re not very good on any level on either side of the ball, they play uninspired football, and they haven’t had a good coach since Shanahan left. Maybe with Tim Tebow….

St Louis Rams: train wreck. Now part of their problems are injuries; they have been plagued. I think they also became somewhat of a media darling last year, which drove expectations way too high. They are headed in the right direction; bought into the coaches system, they always play hard, the young guys are getting playing time. They are just a couple of gaping holes on both sides of the ball.

Arizona Cardinals: as a Seahawks fan, I have to say I saw this coming. However, I’m biased. Similar to the Rams, just not as young. Some talent, some major holes in the rotation. However, this team does not seem to be “buying into the system.” Whisenhunt is not a bad coach, but it’s probably time for a change. He “lucked into” the Kurt Warner Super Bowl team, and I think everyone in Arizona expects too much now.

Carolina Panthers: Now Cam Newton is incredible, and I didn’t expect that at all. Their offense is surprisingly efficient with directing it. However, they are 1-4. Is that because of a lack of talent? Is that because they are young? Is that because of coaching? All of the above? It was probably time to clear house last summer; get rid of the core of a team that went to the Big Game five years ago. It’s tough to replace outdated playmakers when they led you to glory and nothing good has happened since.

Minnesota Vikings: What a nightmare to be a fan of this team. They overachieved two years ago with a last gasp from a lot of old players: Hutchinson, MCKinnie, Birk, Favre, Williams, Williams and others. That was obvious last year when the offensive line couldn’t protect and Favre was terrible. So rather than rebuild on the fly, they got McNabb. Yeah, your team is old and there are many gaping holes and you are relying on old players. There is a lot of rebuilding needed here, especially on defense and o-line.
