Superbowl Highlights

Gear up for Super Bowl XLVI by reminiscing with some past Super Bowl Highlights.

After the game ends this February 5th, the superbowl highlights are sure to be talked about for weeks to come. But before that happens, let’s take a walk down memory lane by examining some of superbowl highlights from past superbowl games.

In 2009, Super Bowl XLIII saw the longest touchdown in superbowl history when the linebacker for the Steelers, Harrison, ran the ball 100 yards to score the touchdown. This put the Steelers ahead of the Cardinals 17-7 going into half time.

With just 10 minutes and 10 seconds of game time left during Super Bowl XVII, John Riggins’ play became a superbowl highlight for the Redskins. At the Dolphins 43 yard line and at the fourth-and-one, Riggins caught a pass from quarterback Joe Theisman, dodged one tackle and took off down the field to score a touchdown that put the Redskins in the lead. That one play helped them get in a groove and they went on to win the game.

Another fun superbowl highlight comes from Super Bowl X. The Steelers’ receiver Lynn Swann made a beautiful acrobatic catch that quickly became his signature. He cuaght a pass thrown by Terry Bradshaw by jumping over the Cowboys’ cornerback. Even though he bobbled the ball, he managed to hold on to it.

One of the most memorable superbowl highlights occurred during Super Bowl XXIII when Joe Montana finished a 92-yard rush by passing the ball to John Taylor for the touchdown. At the time, the Cincinnati Bengals were down 16-13 with just 39 seconds left on the clock. Montana’s play secured the win for the Bengals and that superbowl highlight went down in the history books.

A superbowl highlight that earned Marcus Allen the title of Super Bowl MVP occurred during Super Bowl XVIII. Allen snatched a hand-off from Plunkett, performed his signature dance in the backfield and then proceed to rush down the field for the touchdown. He ended the game with 191 yards ran.

How can a tied game not lead to one of the biggest superbowl highlights in history? John Elway was responsible for that most memorable of moments during Super Bowl XXXII. He made a phenomenal catch by leaping through the air, brushing off two had hits in the process, which ultimately led to Terrell Davis scoring a touchdown two plays later. That broke the tie and put the Broncos ahead of the Packers.

There is one superbowl highlight that has to go down in history as the most talked about superbowl occurrence ever. This highlight happened during Super Bowl XXXVIII, and although it happened on the field, it can’t be attributed to either playing team. Nope, this superbowl highlight occurred during the half-time show when Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake were performing. Timberlake tugged on a part of Jackson’s outfit as rehearsed, but a “wardrobe malfunction” ended up exposing much more of Jackson than the censors could allow.

Make sure don't miss out on this year's Super bowl!
