NFL Teams Super Bowl 46 Hopes - Part 4

Super Bowl 46 Hopefuls (The Contenders!)

This years contenders for Superbowl XLVI

Detroit Lions: they are overachieving so much they may fall out of this category. However, their d line is so overwhelming it might be enough. I watched them play the Bears and that game moved them up to the contenders level for me. Cutler got off maybe five clean throws untouched that game. Stafford and Calvin Johnson look great. They need to figure out a run game, and pray Stafford doesn’t get injured. If that happens and their D really is this good, they are contenders now. If not, they may come back to earth later in the season.

New England Patriots: You can’t be this bad on defense and be higher than five on my personal list. Brady has been so unstoppable this year they can beat anyone; however, until they are playing better on both sides of the ball I can’t put them higher.

San Diego Chargers: fourth simply because of injury concerns right now. If Gates, Jackson, and Floyd can all play reasonably healthy for the playoffs, they’re incredible. If not, they are lacking in weapons and fall a little short. They also really do need a couple of players on defense before they are truly elite.

Baltimore Ravens: Every year seems like it is going to be Ed Reed and Ray Lewis’s last productive year. And every year, they are incredible. Haloti Ngata also seems determined to prove that he is the best D tackle in the league over Suh. He is awesome so far this year. IF their offense improves just a little bit and finds consistency, they may win the Super Bowl. If it continues in this up and down pattern, it may be their undoing.

New Orleans Saints: They may not be the second best team in the league; they just have the fewest question marks of the four above them. They are great on offense, and make enough plays on defense to be scary. Can they stay healthy? Can they hide their defense enough to win another Super Bowl?

Green Bay Packers: How has Aaron Rodgers been better than last year? They are amazing at everything. To nitpick, their defense doesn’t dominate; its more of a bend but don’t break philosophy. On offense, they struggle to run the ball consistently. However, they are so dominant in passing, that may not matter. Four weeks in, and they look unbeatable. We’ll have to wait and see.
